Should You Create Instagram Reels for Your Business?Mar 10, 2021
Have you been scrolling Instagram recently wondering what on earth is up with the Reels? Maybe you even think they are kind of obnoxious.
Set aside any of your existing thoughts about Reels for a few moments while we reframe and see Reels as another opportunity to HELP more people engage with your content.
First off, what is the Deal with Reels?
Instagram recently released a whole new section of the app called "Reels" (because OF COURSE we needed a SIXTH area to post to on Instagram, right?).
This short video platform is in direct response to TikTok’s success - it blew up to 800 million users during the pandemic - and Instagram wants a piece of that dancy, fun action!
There are minor differences in features and function - for example, Instagram's Reels are only 30 seconds long, while TikTok’s videos are 60 seconds - but the idea is the same: short videos set to modern music, with humor, dancing and creativity being the addictive elements.
If you’ve heard of Reels but steered clear, I totally get it.
You don’t want to be shaking your groove thing on your business account. But I’m here with some good news. You don’t have to dance to use Reels. You don’t have to use it at all, but I do want to tell you why you might want to consider it!
Why Reels Might Be Really Great for Your Business:
1) Increased Reach
The reason your feed is flooded with Reels is because Instagram is giving reels preference in the feed as they're a new feature on the app.
Whenever Instagram launches a new feature, it rewards those who use it with higher reach. We saw this with the release of Stories and IGTV. If you’re using the new bells and whistles, they’re going to push your content out to more people.
2) An Opportunity to Show Your Smarts and Creativity
This is your chance to get creative with your business!
You can use Reels to showcase who you are, and what you do. You can HELP your audience with a quick tip, show them you UNDERSTAND their struggles, GUIDE them to your opt-in offer, or simply SHARE a moment in your day -.> more on my H.U.G.S. framework for coming up with content that connects here!
3) They Convert!
Because Reels give your audience an opportunity to connect with you face-to-face, Reels can help you gain more leads, add more emails to your list, and send people to your website. Make sure you're including a Call to Action (CTA)!
I Promise, Creating Reels Can Even Be Fun!
Trust me, I was skeptical too. And then I gave it a try - all of the above have come true for my clients, and for myself. It does take some practice, and you're not going to see results if you're not consistent with it - and that doesn't mean posting them every day. Just start incorporating them into your weekly content mix, and see what happens!
If you DO want to use Reels to reach more people, I can shorten your learning curve! I just did a training inside The Social Groove yesterday. I shared my screen so you can see how to add captions to your videos, how to create those sweet covers, and more! Come get in The Social Groove!
And, if you have been playing with Reels - tag me on Instagram, or shoot me a DM. I wanna see what you're creating!
Here's to “keeping it reels”!
